I see nothing in the manual regarding "end play" on the PO-15
crank shaft. The fuel induction is via a cut-out in the upper
crank shaft flange. Would too much end play cause problems
with the fuel induction and hence running?
Best I can tell is that I have .009 end play.
      Thoughts?

Also, is the screen in the photo part of the bearing drain system?
I hesitate to take the crankcase further apart as the bearings
turn smooth as silk and rod journals look great.
      Thanks.

        Tom,

In my opinion, 90% of the time a PO is in good condition. You can nit pick little things but I’d suggest going out and enjoy running it. Even worn out POs generally run well. That screen is simply a way to keep particles from getting into the bottom main. Notice the tube going to the upper. The screen makes sure the upper gets clean lube. From all the pictures you’ve posted, you have a sweet, low hour engine to work with.

Thanks George, I just thought I’d ask about the end play while I had it apart.
It would "possibly" be simple to reduce crank end play using a thinner gasket
          if needed.

A thinner gasket might be in order since the rotary valve seals against the crankcase. Anything more than .006" will lower crankcase compression and affect the idle. Most people with a PO don’t idle that much however. . . 😆

Gary, you’re a walking, talking OMC manual, lol.
I was looking for that figure in the Johnson 3rd
edition manual, but could not find it.
              Thanks!
