I jut learned that the Fastwin 18 was also available with an electric start in ’58. I have one that doesn’t have electric start and would like to know if it can be retro-fitted for electric start and, if so, does it require more than the starter bracket, starter, solenoid, and different flywheel?
Of course, I realize that I’d need a battery and a starter switch.
Also, IF it can be done: where can I find the required parts?
THANKS

Oh, and Dave, is your response your way of telling me you’ll remove everything I need from your motor? 😉July 11, 2017 at 1:13 pm #61421Some of the flywheels have a bolted on ring gear with NO teeth. If that is so then all you need is a ring gear WITH teeth. Guess who has the toothed ring gears??? Stan in ohio 1-419-589-58one8.

Here’s a thread that recently addressed this topic.
July 11, 2017 at 10:52 pm #61451Thanks A LOT for responding with that link. Having read the entire thread, your last post in it convinced me to trashcan my idea of converting to an electric start. I guess I will have to try pull starting it and see if I want to swap motors instead.
THANKS again!July 12, 2017 at 2:11 am #61454quote Wet Willie:Thanks A LOT for responding with that link. THANKS again! You can also set it up to have all the electric start stuff built into the motor. It’s not factory but you would only need the bracket and starter motor ( assuming your motor has the teeth on the flywheel). A standard relay and switch. Power cables only that go to a battery. If you are rope starting, you are going back to the motor anyway, so you can pull the choke by hand.
