Is there a gasket for the screws that anyone has come up with that doesn’t cost over $4.00? I am thinking of digging threw my old carb kits and trying some of the red drain gaskets.

These 1/4″ ID fiber washers are priced like gold nowadays. Substitutes are difficult to find. Rebuild kits online usually substitute washers made out of cork sheeting. If you have a punch set, they can be made. If memory serves, some make them out of acetal.

Home Depot carries 1/4″ ID x 3/8″ OD fiber washers in packs of two for $1.15. These are only about 1/32″ thick whereas the originals are closer to 1/16″ thick. The solution is to use 2 washers per screw. This has worked for me. Total cost is under $10.00. Hope this helps.

Thanks! That looks to be a bit more reasonable. Do you use any gasket sealer on them or the cork gasket under the filler plate? Winter project is to redo a couple of my old tanks. One i Used the kit from ebay with the cork gaskets for the screws and that was a fail so going to try again. I didnt use and kind of gasket sealer so thought maybe that was the problem.

I am thinking they should be 1/2″ O.D. (95601A315), but could be wrong. I use sealer on the tank top gasket, not needed on the washers.

I have made my own for years from plastic coffee can lids. Never had a problem.

Lots of options! Thanks and I will try a bit of permatex aviation cement on the tank gaskets and one of the options you have given me for the screw gaskets.
