Good morning, I finally received a replacement diaphragm  kit but am not clear on reassembly.  I I checked the net but nowhere is a video or diagram to put it all back together. Anyone have anything? The new diagram has only one dic and no hole. I dont want to damage anything, any info is appreciated

        Hi Steve,

Have you tried a search here?  Google often returns better search results than the on-site search tool.  Enter this into Google:

You are replacing a riveted diaphragm, right?  New support washer goes on one side of new diaphragm, new push button on other side (diaphragm in between).  Simple.

What are we missing?  Something is haywire with your description.  What you bought doesn’t fit the tanks with aluminum shaft.  Time to post some pictures of your tank.

                Steve,

There are two types of pressure tank push buttons that I know of.  I own one of each type of tank and have rebuilt them both.  I’m guessing you have the older style tank.

The new button is provided for the newer tanks.  You should have no problem rebuilding yours without it.  Just stick to your aluminum shaft pump button.

I don’t remember exactly how mine went back together without having to put a hole in the diaphram, but my rebuild kit had the parts to allow me to do it so as to protect the integrity of the rubber.

Sounds like the diaphragm that you took apart is a nine hole diaphragm, and your rebuild kit has an eight hole diaphragm. If you still have the old nine hole, and it’s in decent shape, it can be used as a template to locate and make the additional hole required for the aluminum button assembly.

Not to slide this thread, but since we are on the topic of pressure tanks.  What would happen if a fella used an ordinary cork from a bottle of wine to make the float for the fuel level indicator?  Does it have to be coated or sealed with something?  New ones are outrageously priced.

Snyder’s Antique Auto Supply sells a float that is the exact size used in OMC gas tanks and it is made out of the new material that is not effected by the new gas with ethanol. It is part number A-9313-C. It fits 1928 to 1931 Fords.
