I bent the prop on my ’57 Johnson FD11 18hp motor.
      A member sent me a prop to try, it’s a 9 1/4×11.
He wasn’t sure if it would fit or if the hub was good.
The one I bent was 9×9. The motor came stock with 9×10.
According to the Michigan prop catalog the motor can take
anything from 9×9 to 9 1/4×12 according to load and different
      type boats.
I have a 16 foot flat bottom jon boat and I’m a pretty good
load when the kids are in it.
I tried the 9 1/4×11 prop and the hub is ok but the motor is
Torquing[?] to the port something terrible. I couldn’t really
give it a good run because we were on a restricted lake but
I throttled up hard a few times to check the hub.
Is this to be expected or is it to much prop for my boat?

      Thanks for any help.

Well, I’m thinking that the pulling to port and correct pitch for your rig are two separate issues. Try trimming the engine out or in a bit to minimize the pull. How about engine height? Is the Anti ventilation plate about even with the bottom of the boat?
As for the correct pitch, kind of hard to say without any tach readings from any of the props. The boat is flat bottom, so planning shouldn’t be tough. But, I’m gonna stick my neck out and "guess" that the 11" pitch might be too much for heavier loads or if you are pulling the kids on tubes/skis. Who knows though, try it out with the heavier loads that you mention to see how it accelerates and how the engine sounds at WOT. I’m assuming you don’t have access to a shop tachometer.
You had a 9" pitch prop before, I am assuming that one accelerated great but might have been over revving a bit at WOT….What made you think of changing pitch sizes? Again, I’m "guessing" the 10" pitch prop is probably the best "all around" prop for your rig.

Fleetwin asked; What made you think of changing pitch sizes?
Economics, The member that sent it to me is giving me a real good price.
I’m going to have to get to a bigger lake and find a tach.
Motor height is ok but I’ll check the trim next time out.
          Thanks

You can probably get your bent prop straightened. I have had good service and reasonable pricing from Soderbloom’s in MN.
