Is there a cross reference that shows part number, # of blades, diameter, bore size, etc and not just ‘this prop goes with this motor’? I’m trying to track down an evinrude/johnson 8-9 inch 2-blade prop w/ a 5/8 inch bore, and it seems like based on the bore size it would be for a >7 1/2 hp outboard prior to 1965. I know it’s not a OMC 276866…..
Marine engine website usually lists factory part numbers by engine so you can use those part numbers which are different by pitch to find what you are looking for so long as you know which engines have the same bore and pin or spline configuration in the hub
That sounds more like an early 10 hp prop. I just checked a Michigan 8X8 I have for the 7 1/2 and it’s shaft is only 9/16″. The other key is drive pin location. On the ten it fits into a slot in the inner hub and the cushion is built into the prop. On the 7 1/2 the drive pin is in the small collar that extends from the rear of the prop and is retained by a rubber cap. The cushion is the same metal spring inside the lower unit that the 5 1/2 uses. I’ve used 5 1/2 props as power props in my 7 1/2 as well as 7 1/2 props for speed on a 5 1/2. Not that either one makes that much difference on those little motors.
That said though I have a prop fetish and through the years have bought an sold quite a few I’ve not owned a two blade 9X8 or 9X9. I’m sure I have 3 blades in both of those right now. The 9X8 being a fairly light load 10 hp prop and I have a freshly hubbed 9X9 on my 18 hp to push my barge of a Lone Star. The only two blades I’ve owned to fit those motors have been Michigan AJCs in 11″ or 12″ pitch.
