My question is twofold. First where is the best (cheapest) place to buy a prop for a 1959 Evinrude 35 HP motor. It’s pushing a 14′ aluminum boat. I’ve put two different used props on it but when I’m running UPSTREAM at WOT it starts “slipping” as in RPMS go high but the boat isn’t moving much. I know it’s strange that two props would be spun but I’m unsure what else it could be. It doesn’t act like a clutch dog slipping in and out but maybe it could be?? Anyway what would be a good pitch prop for mainly fishing and cruising at 3/4 throttle? Thanks!!
It's a jungle out there.

Agreed, it is unlikely to be a clutch dog. That would be a grinding or jumping sound.
Could be cavitation, though.

February 26, 2023 at 11:15 am #273185Getting back to your original question, the best place to find a propeller is probably a rummage sale or an auction. Like the old saying goes, “ya never find something when a need it”! On my 14′ Lone star I have a 10 1/2 x 12 brass propeller. With a light load it gets about 27mph. The motor is a 40hp though. You can put your propeller on the bench hold it down and put a long punch through the shear pin hole. Apply a twisting pressure if the rubber mounted center section moves more than a little-bit your propeller is spun. The last prop I had repaired was 45 bucks. I have heard that it is possible to get new insert (center section) and if you have a big vice and/or a press you can fix them yourself.

February 27, 2023 at 11:46 am #273233if stuck I’ve seen somewhere that you can “side drill” the prop body part way and insert a cross pin to lock the hub in place. not good for rocks… but keeps the hub from slipping 🙂
