prop shaft seal install

Have removed old seal from housing on 57 Evinrude 7.5.The housing .Do I need to apply a very small amount of lube in housing to help seal go into place? Also can I use a socket on top of seal and tap into place? Thanks all. Russ…..

Actually, you are supposed to use some gasket sealer on the OD of the seal, but of course we all know that many of them have gone in dry. Sure, everybody uses sockets for seal and bearing installers.

I use permatex 2B . It says pliable Non hardening and of course a socket.

I use Permatex Aviation sealer…comes in a little plastic bottle with a brush…not as messy to use.
