Is there a Sierra sub for p/n 0302495 (Prop shaft seal for Sea King 12hp)?
DrifterSeptember 5, 2016 at 6:09 pm #43344Nope, at least not in the Sierra catalog that I have.
September 5, 2016 at 6:25 pm #43347The original 302495s are out there, but at $16 to $30 depending where you go.
Here’s one of the cheaper ones:

September 5, 2016 at 6:47 pm #43350A quick Google search suggests the number’s reused for a different application. But at least this ad gives specs, if it matches the original, it should still be good :

That seal is not a match sorry. Same shaft size of .625, but different OD and Width.
Sierra is NLA for that seal…..it is the same seal used on the Johnny/Rudes 10hp to 18hp from ’51 to ’57.
I have had them reproduced and sell the kits for those models, or can pull one out if you just need the prop shaft seal. Just let me know you are an AOMCI member if you message me on my site.
September 5, 2016 at 7:51 pm #43357Chicago Rawhide made the originals. There may be a "CR" on the part. Here’s a site that crosses it to an SKF seal and the SKF seal gives the dimensions:
http://www2.chicago-rawhide.com/popup_p … 457012.htm
http://www.skfextranet.com/Catalogs/457 … asp?s=6280
If you run searches you can find places to buy the SKF part. SKF bought Chicago Rawhide about 20 years ago.
I just compared the SKF dimensions to Sierra seals in my 2004 catalog and it looks like #18-2031 is a match which is an available part at iboats.com – check the dimensions and see what you think!
DaveSeptember 5, 2016 at 7:59 pm #43359What year is your Sea King 12 HP? My book on 1957 Sea King 12 HP model GG8971B calls for a prop seal p/n 302545 superseded to p/n 313284.
September 5, 2016 at 8:04 pm #43360Opps – I just checked again and the 18-2031 is off slightly on the O.D. – forget that!
Sorry,
DaveSKF #6280 is still a good number
September 5, 2016 at 8:06 pm #43362Dave,
The 18-2031 will not work. Its OD is 1.125, the 302495 OD is 1.254.
Sierra does not make a match for this seal at all.]
The SKF seal is very close, but is made of steel. It will eventually rust out within a short time.
