So I’ve ended up with almost 20 or so outboards ranging from 50’s to early 2000s. All in different stages of conditions, from parts motor to perfect running condition. So with that said I’ve been reading a lot of posts on this site. Thanks for all the great info and opinions. This however is my first post. Now with the introduction out of the way, I hope it wasn’t too long and your still with me. I’ve got a 1974 Evinrude 25hp outboard which had a wire harness that was not savable. I’m changing it to a push button start and kill switch. My question finally is do I need a fuse between the button and the start solenoid or the battery and the solenoid. Do I need a fuse at all? Thanks for any info. I’m not sure if this has been covered previously but I can not figure out how to search posts or if that’s possible.

imho…any accessory circuit / start circuit  should be fused   to prevent  damages and.. fire…. cost  nothing saves a lot  of grief.

what is not fuse is the  main batt+12v to the selenoid

The electric start version of your motor never came with a fuse in it, although it wouldn’t hurt anything to install one.   When there is a fuse, it is usually in the hot wire from the solenoid going to the key switch in the control box.
