Like i said the coils "work" but throw weaker spark. I am not sure of where to get replacement coils, with or without lamination. Any ideas?

I would like to replace the coils but I dont know where to get new ones or a suitable replacement. Any thoughts on that? They work but are weak.

I got coils for the QD11 at Seaway Marine in/near Seattle, WA. Expensive, but I didn’t want to mess around with all the other stuff to use readily available replacement coils.

From some of my research it looks like Sierra International 18-5181 coils will be a near direct replacement. Can anyone verify that? I’m working with a local marina that deals with Johnson but I have no concrete data as of yet.

The Sierra 18-5181 coils are slightly different from your original 580040 coils. Two totally different ignition systems. I’m not sure but you might be able to use your original laminations and press a Sierra style coil onto them.

QD-10’s are best at 24:1 or heavier. The wrist pins is the only reason I would go 16:1. The big rod ends and mains are all needle bearings, but the small rod ends were still a weak spot. The guys typically would change out the rod and piston sets from the later models, to get the better rod ends with needle bearings.
