Is there any reason for significant corrosion where the O ring on the lower crankshaft bearing seats (groove in crankcase) other than a leaky base gasket?

Water in crankcase (is the bearing rusted).  Water coming up from drive shaft isolation tube (are the parts present on top of water pump)

Thanks Frank, bearing is fine the corrosion was just in the o ring groove. Before I re-install the powerhead I was going to change impeller so I’ll check for leak potential there.

I’m not sure I understand just where this corrosion is, perhaps you can post a picture…

The roller bearing on the bottom of crankshaft has an O ring around it that fits in a groove in the crankcase. The corrosion was in that groove. The block has been reassembled  so no picture possible. I replaced impeller and nothing in that area was missing or needing to be replaced. No signs of water in cylinders or crankcase.
