Has anyone modified a newer float to use on a QD10? Then screw the hinge onto that.

Motor was flooding like crazy. Opened her up, and found the float was so swelled, it was catching on the float bowl housing.

I see vintage outboard has the bowl gaskets, but that is about it.

I just did that on an RD (35hp) that had the old cork float.
Used one of the new floats out of a 40-70hp and shaved it down to fit. Took about two minutes

          Great thanks.

Are needles and seats still available for the early QD?

The needles on these have the groove cut into them that the float arm locks in.

I suppose if they cannot be found, you could modify a newer needle and seat by cutting the groove. Wonder if the groove for the spring on the newer needles lines up?

I think the float is about the only thing not available. I did a QD11 that had been sitting for probably 25-30 years. Seaway even had the coils, but they were expensive.

Think there is still a kit for that engine that includes the parts you are looking for

I emailed seaway, so will see.

I have a box of floats, but none have the width that the QD10 has. When I install the float clip on them, they don’t come level with the casting when inverted. They are short as they are not wide enough. Maybe Ill make one from scratch.
