It’s been a while since I posted. Life has pulled me away from outboards for a while.
I am restoring a rough QD-16 that was going to Scrap so I grabbed it for $20. It appears to haven taken a fall at one point as both recoil mounting brackets are broken and the recoil was gone. All other parts were there.
I have since found a port side bracket and have a WTB posted for the Starboard Bracket and recoil.
My question is does the QD16 happen to be unique recoil or will a 1955 5.5/7.5 or 18/20/25 recoil bolt up? I have found postings for those recoils but none for a 10 hp.
Any insight is appreciated!
Jeff
ps I will post photos soon!

sorry for the confusion! You are correct I am looking for a pull starter recoil and the right side pull starter mounting bracket.
Before deciding to source parts I checked and the compression was good on both cylinders, I don’t have a gauge but it blew my thumb off both holes. I also stuck pencil in both cylinders and no rod knock and pulled the bypass covers and no visible scoring. Lower unit oil had no water and held 5 lbs air. Carb cleaned up nicely. I believe she will be a runner.
Planning to do usual ignition rebuild, fuel lines, impeller.
Thanks!
Jeff

October 16, 2023 at 8:29 pm #281755Thank you for the link. I have a copy of the Bible printed along with a copy of the owners and parts manual. Now all I need is a couple of parts😉
Attached are a couple of pictures.

October 17, 2023 at 8:05 am #281770Like Steve says, those parts are fairly unique, later model stuff will not fit. The 1955 10hps were unique in a few different ways from later models.
Nonetheless, this is one of my all time favorites as well. I’m sure you will find the pieces you need eventually, this engine is worth the effort. Hoping Steve can help you with the needed pieces.
October 17, 2023 at 1:55 pm #281779Thanks for the replies everyone! Crosbyman that is a fine looking motor. Was the paint in that good of condition when you purchased it?
I am going to purchase those parts from Steve and appreciate being able to locate the parts so I will have a complete engine. 1955 must have been a transition year as usually there is a lot of parts overlap.
My coils should be in this week so hopefully I can barrel test it by starting it with the rope and the flywheel method this weekend.
I do have one more quick question, looking at the parts diagram it appears the top crankcase seal is a carbon seal with an o ring. If that is leaking is the only way to replace the o ring by splitting the case or can that seal be worked up the crank?
Thanks,
Jeff
