Got a case of good news bad news going on tonight.
The good news is the carbon seal on the motor was the updated version. The bad news is as soon as I started to gently twist it she gave up the ghost☹️.The new one is en route so I am hoping this will be the last piece then re-assembly can begin.

1973 Johnson 6 HPOctober 27, 2023 at 9:47 am #282097Well I finally got this in the test tank last night and great news, she started 2nd pull. I had to kill it right away as there was only mist out the blubber hole☹️.
I tested pump rebuild on lower unit prior to installing and blew upper leg cooling out with air prior to installing. I did get some air through. Any thoughts? Should I just keep blowing air through or are there any other tricks?

October 27, 2023 at 10:32 am #282100Fleetwin thanks for the reply. I use a garbage can full up to bottom of the lower mounts so hopefully that was not the issue.

1973 Johnson 6 HPOctober 27, 2023 at 11:43 am #282103I discovered the issue the water tube missed the upper grommet. I struggled to get everything lined up but did and it pumps great! We have snow in forecast so glad to resolve this issue before winter set in!

October 31, 2023 at 3:38 pm #282182Fleetwin, thanks I can’t wait to get it on a boat next season! She sounds good and I think she will be a strong runner when I get it dialed in. Unfortunately, the snow showed up today so think my boating is done for this year.
Crosbyman, not an optical illusion, I’m afraid I’m not a purist in that I convert my oldies to fuel pumps.
