What is the rarest/most expensive outboard motor that was commercially produced?
Thanks
JasonJuly 8, 2017 at 8:41 pm #61218One of them has to be the chain drive Waterman which I think was commercially produced but maybe not.
July 8, 2017 at 11:54 pm #61225Most expensive today, or most expensive in its day?
Rarest now, or fewest produced commercially?
If you are talking about antique motors, perhaps the Gray Gearless commands the highest prices. Modern day, no contest, Seven Marine 627.
Most expensive in its day, the Riley (?)
Dunno the value and rarity of the Motogodille but it ought to be up there. Submerged Electric ditto.
July 9, 2017 at 12:06 am #61227BJ’S only (known) surviving 1906 Waterman Porto is rare,
was commercially produced, and has considerable value.
Its not for sale so you can only speculate what its worth.
Any 1 of 1 motors out there the would just as rare, they
could be worth more or less. There is not really any answer
to these types of questions because even though your
asking for the one and only the examples that fit have
variables (like value) that aren’t clearly defined.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
July 9, 2017 at 2:34 am #61245The American has to be most rare. Twenty five built, none found. One reproduction built – it has to be priceless. . . 😯

July 9, 2017 at 5:55 am #61254Just get on Ebay any day of the week, and you will find some very rare and expensive motors…….at least that’s what the descriptions say.
July 9, 2017 at 10:03 am #61257How about the Amphion opposed twin? Only one that I know of.
July 9, 2017 at 12:39 pm #61271I just looked on Ebay, and found the normal "rare" Elgins, etc 😯
but found this Mac10 that might be
closer to actually being rare….

July 9, 2017 at 1:37 pm #61275I would have to agree with Garry, should anyone ever find an American, they would have the rarest of hens teeth. Not sure any are still out there, but who knows maybe!
Realistic rare motors to add to your collection would be any of the 1 of 25 or so type motors that were produced. Some listed above.
My most rare motors are a Johnson XR55 race motor, and on the slower side of things, a 1914 Ferro Rowboat motor. Not into Super Rare status by any means, but I love them.
July 9, 2017 at 2:23 pm #61283A buddy here in Ohio has a MAC 10-runs. And someone sold one at Constintine, I think it is also here in Ohio.
