I’m doing 2 remote tanks, one with Dupli-Color, the other with Rust-Oleum. Are their clear paints safe to put over NYMarine decals?
September 28, 2015 at 11:43 pm #24800The trick is more than 5 light fog coats…… also those rattle can clear coats will NOT prevent fuel from ruining your decal and paint.
Automotive clear with activator/hardener is the only way that I know of to protect the decal and paint…. I am sure there are others, but when I want the decal safe for years…2-4 coats of automotive clear with hardener and it will outlast me and my kids…The fog coats keep the clear from "burning" thru the decal and paint……The clear actually burns and softens the base coat giving it its adhesion, too much and it will bubble and just pain ruin your hard work…more than 2 very light fog coats help seal with burning too much…Clear needs time to "flash" before next coat…
Hope this helps..

September 29, 2015 at 12:50 am #24810You don’t need a sprayer, check this out, and the nice thing about this is it is marked in one ounce increments, and the Omni Clear I use I mix 4 parts clear : 2 parts activator, equals 6 ounces of clear. You can get spare jars, propellant cans, the works…I have done more than one paint job with these. As with ALL paint jobs, your results are directly proportional to YOUR prep, you skimp and take short cuts, you WILL see that in your results..

September 29, 2015 at 10:21 am #24859Yes, just get 2 of them, the propellant is not rechargeable, but the container is… just clean out appropriately. If you have never sprayed, I would recommend practicing… on something not as important. Maybe hit your local paint shop and ask if they have any returned paint that someone did not want. You can probably get it cheap enough… use reducer on the paint so it gets thin enough to spray. Again, preparation is the key. Good luck
