According to the parts manual I have they did manufacture the 25hp Johnson and Evinrudes, 51-54 style, with a long shaft extension as an option. I have yet to find a one of these with the extension or just the extension itself. I am 99% sure the drive shafts are the same as the later 50’s big twins which I have. And the shift rod will work with the 5 inch brass extension. I just cannot fine a single one of these extensions.

Are these extensions were uncommon? or am I just not looking hard enough?

I thought I heard somewhere that there was an extension made that went from the 55′ lower unit to the 54′ motor leg. Not sure if this is true or not.

I will soon post an ad in the section on this website if the members think I’d be able to find them that way.
I really appreciate all the helpful responses that come from these forums.

marineengine.com has a 302805 extension housing in stock. As for adapting ’55 to older models, that would have to be quite a gizmo. They are totally incompatible
