starting to get into my newly acquired 1960 40hp Super Sea Horse (Super Quiet)
And looking for a spare prop on e-bay and there is one listed as
PROPELLER/ PROP 10 7/8X11 305832 FROM A 1960 JOHNSON 40HP RDSL22C OUTBOARD
My old parts book calls for p/n 277617 and 10-3/8 x 13-1/4.
Which one would be better suited for a 1560 wood boat that weighs about 800 pounds fully loaded ??couple of differences to the model number from the motor tag also that I don’t understand.
RDS-L-22-CC . . . . . I am assuming the "L" is for Long Shaft ? it fits a 22" transom.
and the "CC" is for Counter Clockwise rotation ? and the single "C" is for Clockwise rotation ??September 27, 2015 at 10:51 pm #24723There is a large difference between an 11" and a 13-1/4" pitch. Without knowing what your RPM was before, it is a guessing game anyway. But if it was performing well before, probably not wise to make such a drastic change. The factory put the 13-1/4 on because it was best suited for the average boat the motor was likely to be used on.
You are assuming wrongly on the "C". They did not make counter-rotating motors back then. Can’t say that I’ve ever seen a "CC" suffix, but even so, the letter designates any mid-year engineering changes—IF there were any changes. Otherwise it means nothing.
September 27, 2015 at 11:40 pm #24728The prop listed on Ebay is usually used on a 20’+ pontoon boat. It could also be used for pushing barges. . . . 😉

Two NOS Michigan, in the box, 11-1/2 AND 12-1/2".
I live in Sebring over the winter so coud bring some down
if u dont find one this week
bh/October 10, 2015 at 12:40 am #25369With a total boat weight of 800lbs. I’d opt for the 10.375 X 13.25.
With a lighter boat weight maybe try 13.375 X 14, which I think is the factory recommendation.
October 10, 2015 at 12:48 am #25370Thanks guys !!
the prop that is on there now is stuck. The brass shear pin is stuck.
The prop shaft has a groove and key as well as the shear pin.
So after I get it off, I can see (hopefully) the numbers on the hub.October 10, 2015 at 2:21 am #25372You will be able to pick several up at the Super Meet. Also you have a good offer from the fellow in Sebring if he is coming to the meet.
October 11, 2015 at 2:55 pm #25402-regretfully not, in spite of having to scrape frost off of my car wind shield the last 2 mornings.
My wife says maybe later in NOV when it gets ‘cold….’r.
Should be a great meet though. The 1st Int Meets there at Cypress Gardens were super.
Bill ‘Oil Can’ Milligan, Fred Cranfield etc……
I know both FL clubs will go all on this one . -
