Over the last couple of years, I’ve used AVGAS several times in my outboard motors because of the shelf life and the fact that it does not deteriorate fuel lines. Recently, I’ve been using ethanol free recreation fuel from my local gas station. This morning, I decided to put the recreational fuel to the styrofoam cup test. About two seconds after pouring some rec fuel into to cup it completely disintegrated.

I guess I’ll pass on the rec fuel, and go back to avgas.

What’s wrong with that? Gasoline does melt styrofoam cups.

….and it destroys old rubber gas lines. Avgas will not melt a styrofoam cup.

Interesting. There must be some additive missing in it to avoid a possible inflight situation.
