Mecum Auction/Jim Street Estate
Postby melugin » Thu Apr 05, 2018 8:25 pm
Jim Street’s collection of outboards to be sold in Indianapolis by Mecum Auctions May 17 and 18.
Check http://www.mecum.com for details.
===============================
There’s a lot of desirable outboards in that auction,
several racing motors, fabricated creations,
and several outboards I’ve never heard of.
Anybody know anything about these?………Shoda, evidently Chinese?
Federal, can’t be many of these "out there".
Kinuta. Who made that one?Prepare to be boarded!
April 6, 2018 at 1:51 pm #73519Federals were made in Newark, NJ in 1914 and 1915, with home office in Washington DC. I think they only made a 3 HP. I’ve only seen photos.
It was one of the first to have a hinge for tilting up on the transom, but what was really unique was no tiller, instead there were two cords that had handles you pulled on to steer and with more cord you could steer from the middle or bow seats.
DaveApril 6, 2018 at 1:57 pm #73522Shoda was WWII Japanese military – four stroke.
Still looking at the Mecum site – four (!!!!) Packard PT boat V12s and 4 (!!!) Liberties 😯
eta: their labeling and descriptions of the outboards leaves a lot to be desired. Still, there’s some real treasures there.
April 6, 2018 at 2:29 pm #73523The Kinuta is also a Jap WW2 landing boat motor smaller than the Shoda. In it’s original cofiguration it has a skeg about a foot long and when you reach
the beach you remove the motor ,carry it up on the beach and drive it into the sand and it will stand there. One of the members in CAlif. brought one to a meet, we stuck it the sand and it stood there and watched us all day. Jim RossApril 6, 2018 at 4:15 pm #73528I see a KOBAN sitting across from the Federal.
April 6, 2018 at 6:23 pm #73530Thanks for posting that Buccaneer.
April 6, 2018 at 6:48 pm #73531I just re-posted it from a "Classified Ad" on this site
to here, as I thought it would garner some
interesting discussion and "drool". 😉
And I’ve already learned about some Japanese and
a Federal outboard!Prepare to be boarded!
April 7, 2018 at 12:07 am #73546There may be other items from his estate which may not be offered. I know that about 20 years ago he had contacted me about a US army storm boat motor to put on his storm boat. There may also be an extensive amount of loose parts. Several boat related items could still be left. Anybody know??
April 7, 2018 at 10:12 am #73553I`ve always wanted to go to one of those auctions. There`s a 18% buyers premium plus another 3% fee if I`m reading that correct???
April 7, 2018 at 11:55 am #73555That is probably right. The $250 minimum buyer’s premium will not apply to the outboards, though. I don’t know if they will have a minimum starting price on the outboards, as they are offered at ‘no reserve’. There may also be sales tax. Some states charge tax on estate auctions and that may vary if the auction is at another location.
