      Hi Guys.

I’m trying to disassemble my 1959 Johnson 35 HP motor so I can repaint it and I seemed to be stuck on what to do to remove the front lower cowling. The two parts that I’m currently stumped on are how to remove the shift control linkage and the front bushing. I’ve attached some pics. Any advice on how to approach this would be much appreciated.

Remove the bolts from the lower motor mounts, and the nut from the upper front mount. Then grab hold of the lower unit and swing it aft and up, and the whole exhaust housing & lower unit will be out and away, and the shifter stuff will fall apart. Then remove the shifter part that remains in the lower cover (a big Circlip holds it in) Yeah I know, how to get it back together. Reinstall the exhaust housing then the shifter parts, circlip last.
