How does one remove the rubber bushings in the front of the block and water jacket cover (MK55), that the studs on the cowl top/rewind go through?
Are the 2 block halves a machined, matching set? This junk MK55 block (#4 hole is beyond repair), the front half is beautiful. The water jacket cover is perfect on the outside, but has some serious corrosion on the inside, so it’s probably not much good.
to remove the mounts support the ear then tap the bushing thru from the bottom up. an yes they are machined matching set. there have been some people out there that have interchanged them successfully.
I have removed hundreds. I use a 7/16" deep 1/4" drive socket or slightly smaller metric socket to remove them. On the removal brackets on the 2 cylinder MK models I remove the brackets & use my small arbor press to remove them. On brackets that are still on the motor I gently tap the socket & drive them out. Actually they are not machined. They have an outer brass/bronze ring then it is held to a brass/bronze ring with neoprene. I believe that they were integrally made by pouring the neoprene. The idea was that it would limit vibration, but hard to say that it would work for such small pieces.
