What’s the best way to just break a piston up when it’s hopelessly stuck? I thought about sacrificing a punch and just hitting it with a sledge hammer, don’t know how good that would work.

For me it depends on if you are trying to save the rod and wrist pin or just the block? It can depend on if it is a motor has a head or not. Of course where the piston is in the jug matters. Assuming you are just saving the block, I drill the piston head around the wrist pin area and even the wrist pin bosses. Drill through the dome and make sure you don’t hit the block if it is a headless block. After a couple of good strikes with the biggest piece of shaft material that will fit inside the area, the piston usually will give way. After that it’s just a matter of knocking away any left over pieces.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

            Tubs,

As always awesomeness in a video you made..One thought…if one uses a bar to act like the crank shaft, could this avoid bending or oblonging the crank end of the rod? Place bar thru crank end of rod, then place rod under jaws so it pulls against the rod, not just the rod bolts…. did I explain that well enough?

Thanks Tubs! Once again, gentle persuasion triumphs over brute force! There’s a metaphor in there somewhere….
I’ll have to give that a try!
