Gonna restore the cowl on a 58 lark 35hp. Someone had tried repainting it in the past with their own custom scheme. They painted over all the badging but after removing the paint their not in bad shape. The large plastic one on the front had a clean crack down the middle. Has anyone tried using the clear epoxy to repair these then sanding and buffing back to clear? Or will it stay cloudy looking after sanding? Also any numbers or names for paint matching? There’s a dull white a dark blue and a touch of dark red. Also the stamped letters on the chrome strip are currently red , was this factory or just chrome? Thanks. Bob I know you can help here

May 23, 2022 at 7:31 pm #260396Wow after looking at some pictures on the internet, I see 2 or 3 different schemes on this motor. I’m thinking maybe this one was black white and grey? After I removed the chrome strips down the side I see black paint underneath so maybe this was one of the black ones with the chrome and white?? Who knows

When I got it it was blue and white (and red and….) Thanks for the picture this will help a lot. When you Google 58 Evinrude lark there are actually 3 different type motors that come up. (Different years I suppose)

May 24, 2022 at 5:11 pm #260427OK, so I was mistaken. There was a black Evinrude.
May 24, 2022 at 9:15 pm #260436I actually really like that one but after stripping all the paint I can tell it’s been many years since this one sported the original paint job so back to original it’ll be. BTW is the antique outboard paint you buy online laquer or enamel? I’m just wondering, I know their are a lot of threads on here, but couldn’t remember which was better?

May 27, 2022 at 7:24 pm #260547In case anyone else wants to try this, I did use the 2 part epoxy , the clear type for laminating table tops and such to glue the badge back together. I just held it for a bit til it was setting up a bit and would bond itself. Then I used 220 sandpaper on a 5″ sander to get the initial high spots down then 600-1000-2500 grit then some automotive rubbing compound. Shiny as new and it held up to a vibrating 5″ sander so it’s pretty rigid. You can still see the crack but oh well, you can’t feel it at all. Also got most of the paint off of 1/2 the cowl.
