Rewind spring questions

I am trying to find a correct recoil spring for my 1953 super fastwin. I think the number i need is a 41-197. This seems to be a very standard recoil spring for most models during the 50s regardless of whether it was the earlier standard recoil or the later eliptical style. The RD/Bigtwin appears to be an exception with a different part number (375836).

I bought these sierra springs a few years back and the OMC number it is supposed to replace is 395460 and 307573. Maybe one of these earlier numbers (41-197, 375836) superseded to these OMC numbers? Anybody know for sure?

I don’t know whether this spring will fit or not. Any help would be appreciated!

Garry posted this before and it shows that 41-197 (previously 41B197) superseded to 307573. Frank also mentioned once to convert numbers with a dash, remove the dash, add a zero(s) in front to make it a 6 digit number and punch that in and you should get the superseded number, in this case 0395460. So as Dave mentioned, you’re good with this for your Fastwin.

Originally, there were two look-alike springs, one for the smaller motors and one for the Big Twins. The difference was the thickness of the spring material, that is the Big Twin springs were thicker and stronger because of the larger rope pulley. Put one of those thick ones in a small motor, especially one with the round pulley and it was a beast to pull. It seems that nowadays they have decided that one spring can replace both. I’m curious as to how it compares to the two previous ones in thickness / strength?
