Rewind starter markings

Haven’t seen anything in the service manuals regarding these markings. I imagine the writing is suppose to match up with the arrow on the left, depending on the model number?
How critical is it that mine doesn’t match when the rope is recoiled?

Makes for easier starting. Take a second and make it line up. Just need to cut off a little cord.

Thanks Chris. Guess I will have to cut off about a foot. Now it get a bit tricky. This is an Evinrude starter (painted) that I got when I purchased my 1958 QD. What markings should I use, the JE or the E?
