a done deal. I pick it up in the morning at his storage for $300. He is older fellow ( retired ) and just dosent want tire kickers and lookers so I told him I’ll just come and get it and take it away. It has been on display at a boat shop in Reno for over 20 years so… what the heck, I’m good to go.
November 4, 2015 at 2:40 am #26510Congratulations on your purchase! Looks to be a nice engine, if I can help you in anyway.
Feel free to contact me.Respectfully
November 4, 2015 at 3:37 am #26513Thanks, I will be looking for help on this one. That’s the great thing about this club, it make’s you brave enough to dive in to any kind a motors. When I get it home I will just do a good checking over and see what I have. At this point I am more into keeping it as it is, with a little cleaning and look at what it would take to get it up and running for next spring. 😉
I will post some good photos and any I D numbers I can find.November 4, 2015 at 12:58 pm #26523I’m glad to hear you are taking steps to buy it. If it was within a reasonable driving distance from me I’d buy it in a heart beat even with the 30% USD exchange rate we are currently experiencing.

November 4, 2015 at 1:22 pm #26525Good plan, I think you will have a lot of fun with that.
November 4, 2015 at 3:47 pm #26534Hugh, here is link to the Southern Ontario Row Boat chapter web page. Follow the right side of the webpage going about half way down. They have RB articles volumes 1, 2, 3 and 5 listed for viewing. RBM volume 2 and mag 1 has really good buzz coil explanations and good original magneto information.
http://cailleoutboards.com/rowboat/SORBM-Chapter/index.html
When you see the magneto for the first time, there will be a black pitch covering the coil and a portion of the wires. Try not to disturb that. If you are lucky, your coil maybe still good. SORB chapter guys are very helpful.
Grinning with excitement for ya Hugh!!!
November 4, 2015 at 9:41 pm #26548GOT IT HOME AND LOOKED IT OVER. I’M REAL HAPPY WITH IT AND GLAD YOU ALL PUSHED ME A LITTLE TO GET IT. IT IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION.
STORY, THE PERSON I BOUGHT IT FROM IS MY AGE 70’S+ AND HIS DAD USED THIS IN LAKE TAHOE TO PULL HIM ON A PADDLE BOARD BACK IN THE LATE 50’S ? KEEPING IN CONTACT WITH HIM AS HE WANTS TO COME OVER AND SEE SOME OF MY OUTBOARDS AND I WILL GET NAMES AND PLACES, I LIKE TO DO THAT.
THE SN A 95571 AND QUICK LOOK IN THE BOOK MAKES ME THINK IS MAYBEE A 1917? IT HAS NEVER BEEN OUT IN THE WEATHER SO THE FACT THAT IS STUCK FROM SITTING 25 YEARS DOES NOT WORRY ME. SOMEONE TELL ME HOW THE TILLER OPERATES IF YOU COULD.

November 4, 2015 at 9:53 pm #26549Indeed !
According to the data in the book, it’s a 1917 model
very nice catch
parts of the decal still there, even the flywheel chrome is still good looking.
very well done
and…… you have the full history of the motor!
😉November 4, 2015 at 10:04 pm #26550how the tiller works ?
its simple to explain , but ……
I will leave that to others, because English is not my first language
🙂November 4, 2015 at 10:32 pm #26555Tiller has a "F" and a "R". How it work is, you rotate the grip towards either "F" or "R" depending on whether you want forward of reverse. Rotating the grip releases a pin holding the lower unit in either forward or reverse. I believe it only rotates 180 degrees not 120 or 30, but 180 every time you rotate the grip. Once it gets to your requested position that pin locks the lower unit in the proper position. I have never operated one so I may be off, but this is close.. Nice ride…
