Royal 1A5 fuel tank

The fuel tank on my engine has some large dents in it. As it is a two piece aluminum tank, does anyone know how the two parts were joined together? And can they be taken apart to remove the dents.

The haves of aluminum tanks are welded together.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
