I have not seen these plugs on CD-12’s in pictures or videos.  What are they for?

If they are behind a plate the is below and behind the carb…they are controlling the pressure pulse for fuel delivery

Richard,  you are describing the pulse plates behind the intake.  I am talking about the horns  of the air chamber that have openings on each side pointed toward the power head.

I’ve never seen any kind of rubber plugs in the air silencer you’re referring to.   You have pictures of some?

Are you speaking about the Rubber bumpers that mate to the engine cover??

Item 77 in the following diagram:

          https://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1958&hp=5.5&model=CD-15&manufacturer=Johnson&section=CARBURETOR+GROUP

Yes, I realize this diagram is the wrong year, but just trying to pinpoint what you are asking about….

yes CD12 shows those pointy bumpers  my CD11 does not have them but has  back bumpers in the cowl,

if you are missing “front bumpers”  you may be able to  make some using  common tire valves with the brass threads snipped off.      they work great as   “back bumbers” to replace the original star shaped bumpers

so maybe doing some creative carving on tire valves will work out cheap

What a great tip!I’ve been trying to come up with a substitute for those bumpers.

OK, perhaps the older CD uses those wingnuts up front.  Is the poster looking for the rear rubber bumpers that mount on then engine cover inside?
