I e got a few rudder twins and decided to get one running. I finally accepted the fact that you have to meter the fuel lol. The first one started and ran great. The 2nd one wants to pop and carry on. It will kinda sorta smooth out but not as smooth as the first one. There’s really not much to these things  cleaned the carb and it has a rebuilt coil. The timer seems to function as intended. Any little quirks or tricks ? Thanks

Check the point gap. If it is .009 or over try a
couple .000 closer. .005 or under try a couple
.000 wider. Hopefully no one has tried bending
the points to gap them and messed up the tension

tubs is the metering needle supposed to be blunt? Like really blunt. I’m noticing a lot of unburned fuel oil mix running down the exhaust also

On the needle, it varies. Take a good look at
it to be sure it isn’t broken.
Today’s oil doesn’t burn as easily as the old
stuff. Less smoke. If you’re running a rich oil
mix that is to be expected. Most likely that is
what you’re experiencing. The ruddertwin has
a relatively cool exhaust compared to a
Speedster. A hot exhaust can help to burn
off some of the residual oil.

i used standard 30 weight oil 1/3 of a pint to a gallon. Probably need to get it on a boat and put it in the water and see what happens
