Can someone tell me how to safely remove the knob from an early Ruddertwin flywheel so it can be reused later? I did this a while ago and I can’t remember how.

Yes, use a piece of bar stock and drive it out from the bottom to the top. The bottom is flanged, that is what holds it in place.
