Unusually nice flat rudder Ruddertwin with
factory carrying case on Road Show last night.
Appraiser sure butchered the Evinrude / Elto
history. Owner said her father started a few
times but doesn’t believe he ever used it.
Doesn’t seem likely her father could be the
      original owner though.

          $1200-1500 insured value, huh?

It’s a beauty. I think $1200-1500 as an insured value is reasonable. I doubt they get any nicer.

In the early days when that solid rudder Light Twin with the piston water pump was produced, it was a family business working on a shoestring budget. Ole’s wife Bess Emelie did the book keeping and advertising. Her two brothers were apprentices to Ole. The first couple years they outsold Johnson. The auctioneer was right. That Evinrude Light Twin Outboard is a significant piece of outboard history. . . 😎

DAMN!!! What a great couple of days for outboards. First a SuperBowl ad, now Antiques Roadshow!!! We may have to start commemorating this week!!

In terms of insurance value, Antiques Roadshow has explained in the past that this is usually about 150% – 200% of actual value. The idea is, if you have to replace the object, it will cost you the value of the object again to find a replacement.

That is one of the later solid rudder Eltos, probably a 1923. The very early 1921 motors had the gas cap in the front corner which caused gas spills out the vent when the motor was tilted up. Very early ones had a different timer which had a heavy wire coming out of the center of the timer handle. 1921-22 motors had a dogbone shaped exhaust cutout cover. Early ones had both spark plugs horizontal.
This motor is in superb condition.

I have only seen 2 really nice, looks to be original,
Ruddertwins with original case sell. Both were
within the appraisers estimate. One in 2006. The
other in 2008. You don’t see Ruddertwins like this
often and if you were to collect on the insurance
and you wanted to replace it I believe it would
be very difficult to fined one in similar condition.
