Just second guessing myself…. I want to try to start an OA-55 that I just did Tub’s OMC coil retrofit to. All I’m trying to do is hear it run and see if it pumps water before I tear it down and do a full-blown restoration. If I don’t over-rev it….what’s it gonna’ hurt to start it w/o prop? If I do that I can put it in a 5 gallon pail versus filling my test barrel….and I can do it in my warm shop vs outdoors. And yes, I’m getting to be a candy-ass about winter…

      Thanks!

      Jim

I say "pardon me" a lot. I had a 20H, then raced open mod sleds.

Sure you can run it without the prop. Thats how i initially checked mine out in a 5 gallon bucket. Just check the exhaust for water spray. The OA55 has been my most reliable and well behaved antiques. A real sweet runner.

Dunno about that particular motor, but on the direct drive Ev and JW 3 hp’s I take the prop off to tune, then I can use a barrel like you say. Works well, just do not over rev it…
