probably been asked a lot, what is the best replacement for bail o- matic two impellers these days, 5 hp.I brought this motor twenty years ago, was set up, not in bad shape after I got in to it today, impellers are complete but a little hard with age so I’d like to replace them. I can adapt something if close.
July 7, 2017 at 1:27 am #61157since no one gave me any ideas, found a Mercury 47-95289 in my junk, exact same size as housing, will it make a difference if its not a little larger than housing, no curve on vanes.shaft hole hole is 2 thousands smaller which is no problem, this is the nasty pump that I don’t want to do twice, under power head.
July 7, 2017 at 12:42 pm #61176You may want to read this thread. He may make the impellers your looking for. I re-read thread I don’t think he makes the bailamatic.
I did a 7.5hp bailamatic and put in honda impellers but it took some modifications. I don’t think using the mercury impeller you listed will work if vanes aren’t curved to some degree unless you make a shim for the impeller cup which I did using a honda impeller thread will also be below.
I think if I ever do another one I may just use epoxy (jb weld) to build up the cup area by putting thin coats on it and waiting for them to dry lightly sand then put another thin layer. Once I get it built up where it needs to be use a small brake hone to polish it up. I could always build it up again when changing impeller next time. I have used jb weld in the past to resurface cups that have pitting and new cups can’t be obtained. I also spray some wd40 in the bailamatic hose hole before starting mine to help keep it from dry starting and burning up impeller quicker. You can make the rubber connector for copper pipe out of small rubber hose I put a small zip tie above the hose when I put the power head back down to make sure hose didn’t push up and not go into impeller cup hosing all the way. Also make sure to put in new orings go to napa and have them match some up.

I hope that helps,Joe
Also look at these threads. I used the honda impeller but you have to make a shims.

July 9, 2017 at 1:10 am #61234I bought an impeller from Sierra, 18-3009, that was for the small Scotts. Is still working in my Scotty/Mac 7.5. It appears to be discontinued but maybe you can locate someone that still has it. You only need one impeller. You can cut the vanes off the bailer impeller so they don’t break off and go somewhere you don’t want them. Just use it as a spacer.
