I’m trying to get this motor to pump water. So far, I have checked both impellers and they are still flexible. I don’t know how long they have been in the motor as the owner says it has been sitting for years. I have blown air through all the tubes and they are clear. I have replaced the old and crumbling rubber seals on the water tubes.
I took the power head off and put the lower unit in a 55 gallon barrel filled with water. With a drill I spun the shaft and there is no water being pumped up through the tubes.
Also, I have not been able to find replacement impellers 3965-5100. Where can I source these?
Any advice as to how to get this pumping again would be appreciated. Thank you
Bill
September 1, 2023 at 12:55 pm #280029Is the pump just under the powerhead? If so, the water level must be close to the pump it self.
September 1, 2023 at 1:16 pm #280030Yes, the pump is just below the power head. I tried lowering the lower end deeper in the water but that didn’t help at all.
September 1, 2023 at 3:18 pm #280033UPDATE: ok..I tried again and submersed the lower unit until the water was about 1 inch below the pump. i spun the shaft again with my drill. It started pumping water like crazy.
I really don’t get how that is supposed to work when the motor is on a boat. The water level does not typically get that high (or should I say the boat does not typically sit that far dawn in the water).

September 2, 2023 at 7:45 am #280059You might want to check the grommet between the inlet of the pump and the tube up from the pickup. A leak there would cause these symptoms.

September 2, 2023 at 9:49 pm #280111There are people (including me) who have rigged up a priming bottle to squirt some soapy water in through the bailer port in an effort to get the blades wet and lubricated. Usually when the motor starts I can increase the RPM just a bit for a few seconds and it will start pumping. I’m sure that if everything was new this would not be necessary.
