Anyone have an idea of where I can find a lower unit seal kit for a Johnson RD-15?

What does the seal kit contain?

It would be the prop shaft seal the drive shaft seal and the one that goes between the two halves of the lower unit.

The Sierra seal kit for 25 (an up) hp "big twins" (18-2686) is for 1956 and up,
so you’ll need to look at the parts diagram and collect the parts by number.

                  Typical "kits" contain (at least):
Oil seals for prop and drive shafts
                  Spaghetti seal
                  Oil fil & vent washers
                  Shift dog pivot pin o-ring
                  Shift-rod o-ring
                  Prop-shaft "head" o-ring

With that being for a later year 1956 vs 1953-54 would it still fit? I guess the question is how much difference is there in the lower units between a RD-15 vs a RD-17?

Here’s a diagram with part numbers for your RD 15. The P/N’s may have been superseded by new ones but at least you can take them to your OMC/BRP dealer if you have to buy the seals individually. This gearcase doesn’t look much different to later ones so you can compare the P/N’s to the ones given in the link. Click on a Sierra P/N in the link and the contents of the kit will appear, sometimes.

I don’t see why the 1956 & up kit wouldn’t work for you. Most of Sierra’s stuff has that cut off, regardless of whether the items would work in earlier motors or not. I guess they had to pick a year to arbitrarily work with and that was it.
