So, I went to pick up a couple of extra prop shear pins as I’m horrible about having spares with me

Pulled the part number from the book, gave it to my OMC dealer, they cross referenced to 0302333 and pulled me a couple. The ones they gave me are a silver color, not a brass/bronze color, and are maybe 3/8" shorter than the brass ones.

I haven’t checked to see if these are ferrous or what the material is, but I’m worried that I might use them and they won’t actually shear when/if I need them to.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?

02333 was a Monel sheer pin spec’d for the fleetwin and fisherman.
Which engine are you getting the pin for?

They are a DRIVE pin, not a shear pin. They are not intended to shear. There is a shock absorber in the lower unit to protect the drive train. Yep, the same shock absorber that is becoming notorious for breaking. But they break without hitting anything. I think it is metal fatigue from being under constant stress for 60 years.

While we are on the subject of shear pins. This post got me thinking about my 1956 30 HP. Johnson. I think when I went over it I bought a shear pin for it and I think it was Monel metal too. I bought it per part number in the 1956 Johnson part break down list. Is this the correct shear pin for it or should it be brass. Let me know. Bill,
