Well to my surprise when pulled the prop I found what I guess are shims in the prop hub and some kind of spacer on the shaft itself. So I am not even going to fuss with this prop because I am thinking it has a spun hub.Anyone have a prop?
Anyways- The portion of the prop shaft that is outside the gear case is somewhat rusty. The portion of the prop shaft which is in the gear case has no rust. Should I use a different prop shaft? I am concerned about the prop shaft seal.

I would use it! You do need to find a new propeller. I would use some scotch bright on the shaft where the seal and bearing ride and buff the threaded end on a wire wheel. You can get the propeller repaired if you can find a new insert. They are getting scarce but they are still around. Same propeller is used on the 30/35/40 hp motors so there are plenty of used ones around. Some people think they are made of gold but whatever!

Yeah, Gale used steel prop shafts that year. They didn’t last very long in salt water. Actually, yours looks pretty good, compared to what we used to see. Just replace with a Johnson/Evinrude shaft, same thing only stainless steel.

            Interesting shim job.

Here’s a replacement prop hub listing from HMS Hubs. From bottom of page 1, looks like you would need their hub VS-09.

Thought I would pass this along but it would probably be cheaper to find a good used prop.
