Mine was a bolt straight through the bowcap from the previous owner. I don’t like this for multiple reasons, so I’m trying to figure out how I want to proceed with this. I figured I’d ask around and see who has done something different and what other options there have been out there.

I have seen what look like brass shackle rings that mount below the bowcap along the center line of the hull, those might be interesting to look at but I don’t know where I might find those

Google canoe painter rings. This is a good place to start.http://www.carryingplacecanoeworks.on.c … rials.html Make sure price includes bolt and not just ring. Some places sell seperatly Also make sure bolt is long enough that you can run it through a piece of wood on the inside as backing.

Purchase a SS u bolt bow eye. Will not break and semi cheap depending on the size.

Just in case you are wondering… "painter" or "sea painter" is the correct nautical term for a line (rope for the land lubbers) that is used to tether a boat to the side of a ship.
