I have to replace plug wires on a mid seventies 6 horse evinrude fisherman. What type of wire did they have ? I’m thinking just a solid wire core plug wire that I can buy at my local auto parts store ?

I use these.. not to expensive considering 8 + 1 wires come with boots , ample long for the job heat resistant silicone solid core 7mm metallic wires

hopefully you can get them in the US … or equivalent wires

shorten the boots if to long for you

I use these solid core wires from Tractor Supply – get them online or maybe they have a store near you:

Yo crosbyman, the description for these wires says they are ‘Low Ohm Distributed Resistance Core’. Carbon core instead of solid core then?

nope solid wires 0 ohms is the lowest they got so the statement is true

zoom in on the picture… solid wires may not be copper but 0 homs is 0 ohms across 18-24 inches of wire

                🙂

OK, I see it now! Yup, solid core.

Solid core wire is one wire inside the insulation. Stranded core wire has many strands for flexibility. Carbon core is no good for old motors.

ok lets call it twisted multiple strand solid core wires with no carbon

I buy my cable by the foot on eBay….7mm stranded (and that NAPA link above is stranded, not solid), and it’s cheaper than buying sets & cutting them up. This stuff works just fine…never had an issue

If you want to get all fancy, you can go colors:
