personally, I run mine 24:1. Use TCW3 oil. Use either Champion J4C or J6C plugs. I use J6C, a little hotter plug, as I troll alot.

No. 16:1. There are no needles in that engine.
24:1 is for larger motors that actually have needle bearings. 😎

Actually, the owner’s manual will say 50:1. We can argue all day about that. For me, it is 24:1.

It has always been twenty four to one . . . 🙄

Not quite always…and the argument goes on.

                  Well, it’s your motor. LOL
Oil is much cheaper than rods, cranks and pistons. Why scimp on it? It’s the cheapest thing you’ll ever put in an engine, plus it will prolong the life of it.
50:1 for any 3 or 4 horse motor before 1970, is inaccurate, otherwise it would be true for earlier models.

It’s interesting that they say 24:1 for the ADs and CDs, the two biggest rod throwers of all time. And on top of that, they were saying 50:1 for those motors if you used Johnson lubricant. Ha! There it is in black and white. Someone in Corporate was truly delusional. I wonder just how many motors were trashed by that memo?

                    Long live American manufacturing!

Or how many 100:1 motors were recalled? LOL I actually had a 25, with a new powerhead, because of these "geniuses"
It was a 1986 motor, with about 10 hours on the top end.

The CD’s were improved with needles on the rods and the rods went to steel.
Unfortunately, the AD was discontinued after ’58.

I mix ALL of my outboard fuel 16:1 so I can run any of them I want. Haven’t nuked a rod yet 😀

i will run 16:1 as long as it doesnt foul the plugs or get too much carbon buil-up on the rings
