I figured it was still good enough for an experiment, so I’ve converted it to a 5HP electric outboard.September 12, 2025 at 8:19 am #299829That’s certainly a good way to get an outboard back on the water. the transition between the original parts of the motor and the new electric part of the LU looks seamless.

That is really well done. Is it much lighter?

Actually the whole lower unit is new and build of glass reinforced plywood.I figured that you had made a whole new LU, but I was trying to say that it fits the motor really well. That is especially interesting that you used plywood, as I was imagining that it would have been made with some sort of fiberglass mold to make it. the woodworking on it is quite impressive.

September 12, 2025 at 7:45 pm #299846fastwin18, that is a remarkable creation. Great work. Did you happen to use West System epoxy? If so, you should submit your project to their magazine ” Epoxyworks” … If you didn’t use their stuff, still worthwhile getting the West System magazine , its free and has lots of good “how too” info about epoxy and its uses. They would love your story…
check out “epoxyworks magazine”
