I’m sure most of you won’t be fooled, but I think I did a decent job.

2 strokes are banned in certain areas over here, and the powerhead was seized beyond repair.
I figured it was still good enough for an experiment, so I’ve converted it to a 5HP electric outboard.

That’s certainly a good way to get an outboard back on the water.  the transition between the original parts of the motor and the new electric part of the LU looks seamless.

              Thank you!
Actually the whole lower unit is new and build of glass reinforced plywood.

That is really well done. Is it much lighter?

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

                  Thanks Tubs, much appreciated!

It now weighs 46 pounds, including engine speed controller and water cooling. Roughly half the factory weight.
This is the new lower unit in an early stage. All the cables and stuff is routed on the inside.

I figured that you had made a whole new LU, but I was trying to say that it fits the motor really well.  That is especially interesting that you used plywood, as I was imagining that it would have been made with some sort of fiberglass mold to make it.  the woodworking on it is quite impressive.

fastwin18, that is a remarkable creation. Great work. Did you happen to use West System epoxy? If so, you should submit your project to their magazine ” Epoxyworks” … If you didn’t use their stuff, still worthwhile getting the West System magazine , its free and has lots of good “how too” info about epoxy and its uses. They would love your story…

                        check out “epoxyworks magazine”
