      Hello,

I am new at this forum and have a specific question. We run a museum in the Netherlands and build in many different places of Europe original world war two pontoon bridges. We also got a lot of Johnson outboards POLR 015 and now we are wondering what kind of starter rope is original. I don’t think it is a rope with red stripes.

I would love to hear from someone who knows which material is used during that days. And for the extra maybe someone knows which length is used on the POLR 015 and Big Four/8008. Maybe a special formula like three times around the starter pulley.

      with kind regards, Sil Rustenburg

For my PO15, I use 3/16” woven rope.Length is 32” from handle to knot.

POLR 15 was issued to troops in a large wood chest containing the motor and everything needed to service operate and maintain it. Also included was the U,S, Army Field Manual which illustrated and listed contends as well as illustrated instructions service, operate and maintain. Chest and contents would be a rare find….included spare starter ropes.

          Louis.
