The auction has already ended, but I’m just wondering if this
type of tester would suffice for outboard coil testing, condensers, etc.,
or is it better suited for automotive work?
Also, any idea what the complete model number is of this tester?
Part of the label is gone.
Thanks, and Happy New Year’s Eve Day!

Looks like it would have all that you need on it. I personally have not tried that exact one, but have other stevens testers.

Strange that they are selling for Northern Lakes Marine LLS, I have bought a lot from them on ebay before.

That is the "New" Stevens tester shown in OMC service manuals. "New" as in the 1950’s that is.

            Thanks for the replies.
Frank, does it show the whole model number anywhere on your literature?

I have an "old" Sun Automotive tester on a cabinet from the 1950’s, back
when 6 volt auto’s were the rage. It operates on 12 volts though, so that’s
a plus. I bought it years ago from a co-worker for $75. Some of the meters
worked "fair", but I don’t remember having much luck testing coils on it.
I should buy a big can of electrical cleaner and go to town on the meters
and see what happens. It even has an "exhaust gas" analyzer …… but
not sure that’s needed for outboards. 🙂

Sorry, I’ve looked through several manuals and all they specify are the "Old" and "New" Stevens testers. Sometimes called the New Magneto Analyzer. It’s probably listed in the old Stevens catalog if anybody has a copy.

Ah, seek and ye shall find. I found a better picture and it is a MA-7? The ? probably is a 5. When I blow it up big enough to read it, it loses too much detail.

Thanks Frank! I’ll try to study up on that model in case another one
                  passes by.

Here is the one I have. A great machine for the stuff we work on. Works off 110 V or D cell batteries.

So using the D cell power you can take it with you out in the field or to the ramp for service work? Sweet!
