Is there anything you could do to a working fuel pump if you were going to remove and store it to keep it from deteriorating. I was thinking of spraying fogging oil,or squirting outboard oil in to preserve it. Something to displace any moisture and not effect the diaphrams.

I have never tried it or even thought of needing to do it, but if I were going to do it is probably drain it as best I could first. The fogging oil may be OK, but maybe something like aerosol Rem Oil gun oil or something less waxy than fogging oil would be better for long term fuel pump storage? More importantly, I think, would be to make sure to drain as much fuel out as possible and then vacuum seal it to try to remove as much atmospheric air as possible. I’d put it in a FoodSaver bag and seal it up and store it in a cabinet out of extreme temp swings. These things seem to be pretty durable though and seem to keep on working for a long time with no special care. Others may have more ideas.

In the seventies after the motors were test run at the Johnson plant the motors were run out of gas & turned upside down. The engine had been fogged with oil, but the fuel system was blown out with Solvasol? I think it was like a Stoddard solvent. High on the paraffin chain. The engines were shipped powerhead down. The lubricant/parrifin was suppose to keep the needle seats from sticking for up to 5 yrs. Most engines didn’t have to wait that long to be opened and run. Not sure if this would be the best stuff today, but it worked pretty good back then. Google shows it to be like mineral spirits, but I believe it has less volitle components than that.
