I picked up a 1968 Evinrude Mate 1.5 hp at Tomahawk. My manuals don’t cover motors that new. I’d like to know the procedure for synchronizing this motor. I do see two marks on the mag plate about 3/16″ apart. Also, the mag plate doesn’t appear to be attached to the motor with four screws like on the universal mag plate. How do you remove the plate?
Look at the bottom of the mag plate. See that horizontal screw with a spring on it? That is what holds the mag plate on and also adjusts the friction desired. Screw must completely removed to release the plate.
Thanks Frank. Any ideas on synchronization? There is a cam follower and marks on the plate like an older motor, I’ll double-check to see if I have a manual that goes up to 1968.
Basically, the carburetor throttle shaft should just be starting to open when the plastic throttle arm is in between the two marks on the mag plate cam.
