Seems to me the old Johnson Service Manual had a section showing a compressed-air and torch trick. Disclaimer : I never tried it.

I have done this with a Bendix tank. I used about 8-10psi and a propane torch and had some success. Keep the heat moving.

sounds doable… I’ll somehow try pressurizing from the fuel valve threads and use a heat gun to start with …..getting cold outside and flame torching in the basement sets of alarms… 😮

I did the air pressure trick on a Lightwin and it worked great. It is VERY important to clean it well and eliminate any possibility of fumes. I added some pictures to a post (https://aomci.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10273&p=62683#p62683), and included the instructions from my fifties service manual, which is the best book I have ever read. :~)

On tanks like a JW,TD or HD,I found out the hard way it is best to keep them screwed to the "frame/bracket"they sit in.If you don’t,the air pressure can deform the bottom of the tank and it won’t fit into the bracket when you try to re-install it.
