Wondering if it is still possible to get a carb kit for this motor, also does anyone know the initial settings for the carb needles. Thanks
July 16, 2016 at 10:18 am #40307I don’t know of any carb kits available. You will need leather primer seals, a new or refinished float, and packing washers for the low speed needle (if you choose to replace the packing).
For initial carb settings, try 3/4 of a turn open for the high speed, and 5/8 of a turn open on the low speed. This website is very helpful: http://pochefamily.org/outboard/CarbService.html

July 16, 2016 at 10:19 am #40308Hi Jerry.
Wonderful motor you have there! No carb kits are not available for these motors, but they are very easy to work on. You’ll want to reseal the cork float, and perhaps make a new cork if the one in there has deteriorated. You’ll also need new leather primer washers.
Most of the information you need for working on these motors can be found here: http://www.pochefamily.org/outboard/
Specific to the carburetor: http://www.pochefamily.org/outboard/CarbService.html
The points will need to be cleaned and reset. The coils and condensers on these old motors are almost always good. You’ll also want to replace the water pump. But again, these motors are easy to work on.
As you have questions, don’t be shy and feel free to ask questions here.
Good luck!
July 16, 2016 at 10:42 pm #40345Thanks for the replies. That helps a lot. Starts easily, trying to track down why it will not hold a steady speed, surges up and down a bit. Could be sucking in air from somewhere. I know I need to repack the low speed needle, any other areas to check?
July 16, 2016 at 10:55 pm #40346Lloyd, one of our members makes those primer seals. Or at least he used to, don’t know if they are currently available or not. Perhaps he will check in on this.
July 17, 2016 at 12:31 pm #40370For seals, try Lloyd Lautner first. If not available, then here is a source: http://www.effenaco.com/store3/viewcate … ?groupid=1. Make sure you get seals made from leather, just as the originals were. The leather will conform to the brass washers and primer for a ‘custom fit’.
They also have new floats, if you prefer to just buy one. The other option is refinishing the one you have or making one.
Low speed packing is more difficult, but not impossible to find. Within the club, there are members that sell vintage parts. Someone will have this packing for sale, it’s a matter of asking around. Try the free classifieds on this site.
