Gotta love these boneyard gems! Serial # 694297. Never saw a gold one. Good compression and spark. Had to drop the lower unit first as it turned nice and then stopped. Even has the old J8J plugs.

Looks like my TD-20 Johnson, and "Yes", it should be Seahorse Green.

My chart of serial numbers also tells me it’s a 1948 TD-20. I can see in the photo that it has the old style brass transom clamp pins as opposed to the flipper style that came out in 1949. I’m not sure, but it looks like there may be a little green paint showing from under the other color. The decals look to be from the later TN model, so I’d guess that someone did a spray over with TN replacement decals.

Right or wrong it looks good in gold.

Yes, at first I thought the lower unit was changed because the gold has flaked off, but there is green showing under the cowls too. He must have painted it gold when that color was first used (1957?). He did a decent job though. I’ve alway wanted one of these. Good winter project.

Slim, Here’s a couple of pictures of a restored 1947 TD-20 with the lower cowl off. Your 1948 would have looked just like it.

Thanks aquasonic; It should not take more than the basics to get it running good. Compression is 75 psi, spark is 1/4". Something is binding in the lower unit so I’ll look at it first. Nice looking ’47!

Where does one get a chart showing the year for TD 20 and other Johnson models?
